Tri-tone shader, can be used with any shader, textures, color ....
Import "Tri-tone-Hard-Mat" and "Tri-tone-Hard-Nodes", assign "Tri-tone-Hard-Mat" to your model, tweak it as usual and the nodes do the rest.
Don't use AO with it. You can tweak the ColorRamp to change the way the conversion works (Shader -> Tri-tone via ColorRamp) simply by move the four color points on it.
