After the matrep has been down for a looooong time, I finally managed to move everything to my current webserver, duct-tape everything so you can at least browse and download mats and brought it online again. Sorry for the long down-time! Sadly I had to disable all login-based features for now because the codebase is just too old to run reliably. I will try and create a new version of the matrep at some time in the future. If you want to contact me, send me a tweet to @paratron. Have fun! :)

Hey folks,
I KNOW i've announced a new version of the BMR for today, but I also knew that I couldn't hold the "release-date", I'm sorry >_<

But I'm really working on it in my rare free time, so don't worry; it will come!

If you are curious how the new repository will look like, I have two "screenshots" for you. They are extractions of my layout and are definitely NOT final! Things may change until the final version, but you can have a good overview how it will look like, allready.
Have fun with guessing what new features will come to the repository ;)

Hey folks,
several people contacted me these days that they have problems downloading materials via our blender-script.
I'm aware of this problem, but this wont't be fixed soon, because I have no time to fix things up at the moment.

Another thing that kills my motivation to give support to the repository at the moment: I'm working on an ALL NEW Blender Materials system at the moment and planning to get this done until the second birthday of the BMR what is somewhere around the 3rd of May.
So don't judge me for being lazy at the moment - things will get better somtime soon ;)

This is actually only a crossover site. Just use it for downloading mats - I will dump this one when I have the main project back online. Comments, Registrations and Votings of this one will get lost then.

Don't worry - ALL data of the old project will be restored later, no material will get lost.

I think this is useful after the big game-enginge update in Blender 2.48, so go on, create some cool game materials and upload them :)

Oh my gosh - today I discovered a huge BUG in the search-system. If you entered the word fruit for example - it returns nothing!

Daaamn, why didn't no one notice that the search only affects the material titles...?
:P

anyway - now it works. Type in "fruit" for example and see ;)

Hey people,
I don't know what's going on here in the last days, but STOP saying about anyones materials "uuh, uuh, it's ugly, you are so lame (or something)" - the people put much work in their materials, so appreciate that!

One of our users wanted to get nearly all of his materials deleted because of that. Do you want our database grow, or shrink? It's your decision...

I removed the category 'Volumetric' again.
But you can add the flag 'Uses Volumetrics' on your new materials now, when you are uploading them.

I think thats better, because now you can put your new volumetric materials into different categories.

Weeeha, Blender-Materials.org is one year online!
Thanks to the great blender-community, who made this little project of me so famous =)
We gathered over 500 Materials in this first year and had over 250 thousand downloads!

I have some new ideas for the site, but actually I am creating a new little project and this needs all my (rare) free time ^^
But in the next time I try to come up with a downloadable package of the whole repository to make it offline available and finish my old idea of a challenge area :)

But enough talking - you all want to know who the winners of my birthday-present-giveaway are :D

Did you notice something?
The frontpage is a BIT larger today.
Thats because one of our users;
G_Taurus added 41 Materials at once!
You have heard right!
He is the creator of the blender-material-library www.blender-materials.ic.cz and I asked him if he would like to add some of his materials to our database.
And he did! 41 new materials!!!
It has been much work to render all these preview images at once and upload all the materials, but it's worth the work, I think.

So if you agree with me, that this is just awesome, leave a comment under this newspost.

Hello again =)
It's nice to see so many new faces and of course new materials here!
You may have allready noticed, I made some changes on the project, the last week.

As there are:
Search Engine Optimization
A ?Share This? Button for you to tell your friends about new materials and keep them up in bookmarking services.
Displaying recent materials to the one you are viewing.

I'm glad to offer you another new feature:
If you wan't to submit some cool material of you, but your PC is too old or something and you don't want to wait hours for the renders so I will render them for you ;)
I can do this because my new PC arrived just this week and it's fast enough to offer this to you =)
But be careful!
If you don't submit your own preview renders, it can take very long until your material will be activated because if there are many waiting ones, I won't sit the whole day and render for you.
So if you definitely want your material fast in the database: render for yourself.

Hey, it's me again.
Yes, I am not dead, altough I havent done so much on the site in the last time ;)

Today I have big news for you: In two month on May the 3rd the Blender Material Repository becomes one year old!
To celebrate this, I have prepared two gifts for you:

1st: A supercool
Blender-Materials.org T-Shirt!
2nd: A Blender Mousepad

Both are designed by me, the mousepad long time ago and actually I am the only person on planet who owns this supercool Blender-Mousepad *hrhr* - now I will create a second one especially for you!

How can you get the shirt or the mousepad?
It's easy! Under all submitted Materials with a rating of 6+ there will be randomly chosen two materials from two different users and this users will get the shirt or the mousepad.
This means: the more materials you have submitted, the higher is your chance to win either the shirt or the pad ;)

Yes, yes - I know I havent even finished the Challenge-Feature, but today a new feature came to my mind: Working-Area.

Because many materials came up here in the last time where even the creators aren't satisfied with, I think an Area where you can upload a material, work on it, upload it again and so on until it's finished and can be used in the database would be great.

I hate to do this, but some kindergarden-acting users forced me to: I've added a new 'Feature': muting.

If a little redwhite cross appears besides your username in the user-panel after logging in, then it means you are muted.

Look into the FAQ for more information.

I had a idea to put a new feature in the project: Beside the nick of each material poster will be a little 'barometer' displayed, that shows the average rating of all his materials. The higher the barometer grows, the better are his materials.

Today, I made two little updates for the project.

1st:
I introduce the new Node Indicator to you (). I tried to update all existing node-materials with it but if you see one thats not jet indicated, please inform me. In the upload-form, there is a new checker for "Node Material" now.

Did you notice the little Stars beside some users names? You can get them by making people happy when you upload materials that they have suggested.
Look in the FAQ to see what stars you can get ;)

I used my day in vocational school to bring some new features to the site: Now you have a favorite-function to gather your favorite materials to a own collection. Just click on the little star in the bottomleft corner of the material-cards. This Function is based on JavaScript and AJAX, so you need to activate JS in your browser. ;) (sorry, please don't yell on me ^^)

We will bring the favorite-list into the Blender-Plugin, the next time - stay tuned ;)

The second change: We have now a page-internal mod-to-user messaging system. If anything went wrong with your material-upload, the moderators will contact you directly on page. No more mails that got lost in any spamfilters ;)

Two new features will come up the next time.
The first is a new battle-section on the page, where we will offer monthly challenges for creating material shaders. The best shader will be 'shader of the month' (always displayed on frontpage) and the creator will get a 'shader guru'-Award from us :)

The second new feature will be a Plugin for Blender to browse in the Repository without starting your browser at all! And you just have to click on 'use material', instead of downloading and appending it from a blendfile.

So stay tuned ;)

UPDATE!
We have a new render.blend, where we added a Particle-Plane on a
4th layer for your fur-materials.
When you upload some new Materials, some things in the upload-panel
have changed.

1st: You can choose between Sphere-Render and Fur-Render (Layer4), if
you are adding an fur-material.

2nd: You can now decide if you want to upload the complex-render or one
of your own renders to show how the material looks like under 'real'
conditions.

PS: The people, who want to exchange the preview-sphere of their allready existing fur-materials with the fur-preview can send me a
mail with the picture and the mat-name/id and i'll replace it.

But we STILL stuck under 200 materials. That's a shame T_T

So look deep in your blender-folders and dig out the mats!
